Word from Within

Violent struggle makes less sense than peaceful protests, but is a lot more effective. Shows where our values have gone.

Roadmap = Road-block to Peace

Yesterday’s failed U.N Security Council draft resolution was another opportunity for the US to showcase its two-faced hypocritical stance on the War on Terror/Militants/Non-Christians/Muslims/Islam.

The US exercised veto power over a draft resolution that condemned an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip and demanded that Israel remove its military personnel from the occupied territory. This is nothing new. The UN has always said that Israel should remove itself from the occupied territory and give back the land it annexed in 1967. Israel has never complied with these demands and the United States has allowed them to operate with impunity.

Advocates for the US argued that the resolution was biased and was politically motivated to attack the Israeli regime. It was not “evenhanded characterization of recent events in Gaza”, said US ambassador John Bolton, who further explained that it didn’t advance the cause of Israel-Palestinian peace. This makes a lot of sense of course, because condemning regimes for occupying and murdering people, is always a roadblock for achieving peace in the region, or so the ambassador would have you believe. Time and time again, the Palestinians have made compromises and have issued and abided by ceasefires. Even when Israel cuts of their electricity and water, they remain silent. Then what? The Israeli military annexes more Palestinian land, in clear violation of several UN resolutions. Then the Palestinians launch attacks and the IDF conduct a full-scale invasion. And the pro-Zionists media say that the militants don’t have the interests of regular Palestinians at hand. They pray on feelings of sympathy and say that the regular Palestinians didn’t want this but they are overtaken by these ‘radical militants’. What they don’t say, is that these militants are regular Palestinians.

With the UN being hijacked by the United States and countries on the pay-role of prominent pro-Israelis, it’s no wonder they have lost credibility and are rendered helpless. It’s no wonder that they couldn’t prevent the destruction of Iraq by the American war-mongering state, and are powerless to defend Palestinian human rights, as well as the rights of the Christians and other Jews in the occupied territories. It comes as no surprise that attacks in other countries are increasing as Muslims across the globe realize what’s happening and they are frustrated and don’t know what to do. They need direction and it’s not going to come from their current governments, and unfortunately, like in Iraq, it’s coming from angered religious leaders who are too angry to think straight. We need level-headed minds to guide us through now, so I urge you to educate yourself and not to let the right-wing media do it for you.

As a push to get you on your way, Al-Jazeera has just launched its English Channel program, and re-vamped its website. You can check it out here.
